Director General Manager - UK

A chartered Civil Engineer, Nick has extensive operational experience across the UK Construction and Service sectors in both private and public sector organisations.  He has worked across Carillion Group since 1998 for our construction and services businesses and has managed financial close and operational delivery roles on Joint Venture PFI contracts. He has a passion for sustainable business growth and a track record for building and replicating successful business models in collaboration with customers and business advisors.   He has actively engaged with schools and colleges with the ambition of drawing young talent into our exciting and diverse business portfolio and the opportunities on offer.  Joining SkyBlue in June 2016, Nick is keen to continue the transformation of the business to become a truly customer focussed organisation which offers great solutions and great value as well as investing time and energy in looking at how we can improve the safety and welfare of our temporary workforce. Nick lives in Winchester and enjoys a variety of motorsport activities when family life permits!


Head of Strategic Growth

Summary of role: Mary is a member of the SkyBlue senior management team responsible for all work winning, business development, mobilisation, Net Promoter Score, equality, diversity and inclusion, marketing and social media.

What does a typical day entail for you? My day changes on a daily basis which makes my role so interesting, it can range from tracking Carillion’s pipeline to identify new opportunities for our business growth, to keeping an eye on the major projects we are currently supplying, to discussions around our service delivery from customers and candidates, and generating new ideas for our social media campaigns.

What do you enjoy most about your job? Meeting new people, learning about contracts and securing new opportunities for the business and seeing them develop into successful projects for the team.

What is the favourite part about working for SkyBlue? The variety of work,  the business is so diverse, you can be supporting the build of a new hospital one day and then discussing how best to improve communication within the business. Work life balance is also a major advantage of working at SkyBlue, it allows me to be a working mum whilst fulfilling an interesting and challenging role.

How did you first get your first role in SkyBlue?  I started as the Regional Manager for Scotland and the North when we had 9 branches throughout the UK.

What would you say is the achievement you are most proud of? Just about managing to juggle two children (aged 11 and 13), two cocker spaniels (aged 1 and 2 years), a husband that travels every week for work and my work travel.

Has anyone inspired you during your career (and, if so who and why?) My first sales manager at Yell, he taught me to always do what’s right for the customer, sell to their business needs only and the targets will take care of themselves.

What advice do you have for prospective candidates looking to work at SkyBlue? Be prepared to work hard, be honest and never give up.

Commercial Manager

Summary of role –  Peter is Head of the commercial team which has 6 key areas of responsbility, Health Safety & Sustainability, Governance, Quality Audit & Compliance, Regulatory, Supply Chain and Commercial for SkyBlue. It is a Senior Management position which Peter is honoured to hold. 

Number of years at SkyBlue Carillion? – 2 years

What involvement do you have in groups and community projects ? - The Commercial team do a lot of work with local charities providing mentoring and work experience for those looking to get back into work, or those who have suffered a life changing event. Peter also helps out at when he has spare time at his Parish Council completing odd jobs to support the local community.

What does a typical day entail for you? - Heading up different areas means no two days are ever the same however a day will involve an early start, at least 2 hours of travel, conference calls, face to face team and external meetings, some form of dispute resolution or problem solving, analysing legal argument or regulation and people management.

What do you enjoy most about your job? For me there are 2 elements I enjoy the first being the variety and technical challenges that comes with this role. The second being able to see others grow in confidence and adding real value to our business and profit to our bottom line.

What is the favourite part about working for SkyBlue? - That’s easy ….It’s the fantastic people we have, everyone really knuckles down and pulls together when needed. Having good people makes SkyBlue a lovely place to work.

How did you first get your first role in SkyBlue? - I was approached and asked if I wanted the challenge. Naturally it was a yes. 

What would you say is the achievement you are most proud of? - I won’t point to any particular achievement but the one thing I am most proud of is my team. Seeing them develop over the last 2 years growing in capability, knowledge, confidence and moving up in their careers.

Who has inpsired you throughout your career? I’ve drawn inspiration from many different areas and people throughout my career it wouldn’t be fair of me to point to one person, let’s just say there have been a few.    

What advice do you have for prospective candidates looking to work at SkyBlue? - Choose an organisation that shares the same values as you, and a job you are passionate about, hopefully that is with SkyBlue. Work isn’t supposed to be a chore, we work long enough hours

Finance Manager

Michelle is a Chartered Accountant who qualified with KPMG before joining Carillion in July 2010. Michelle has extensive finance experience, including business partnering across the Carillion Group. Michelle has led different projects in outsourcing, system implementation and process improvements. Michelle joined SkyBlue in May 2015 as part of the Senior Management Team (SMT), leading the Finance, Central Administration and Payroll teams. She is keen to continue with the rest of the Senior Management Team in transforming SkyBlue to a truly customer focused organisation whilst improving Health and Safety of our temporary workforce. Outside of work, Michelle enjoys football, athletics, travelling and running.

Dave is a well-known and respected leader in the field of Equality and Diversity which has historically seen him attend meetings and forums with leading Government Officials discussing and debating the Equality and Diversity and Disability agenda. In his present role as Inclusion Manager for SkyBlue & CTS, David undertakes a wide range of duties and responsibilities which include working with local agencies, job centres, Work Program Providers, Disability Groups and Apprentices in the areas of employment, recruitment and training of local people. David’s previous experience in starting as a General Operative in 1979 and progressing to Construction Works Managers, combined with a passion for Equality, Diversity and Disability makes him perfectly qualified to be SkyBlue’s Equality and Diversity Guru!
